A native of Virginia, Dr. Sean W. Smolenyak graduated from the University of Virginia and continued his education at The Pennsylvania College of
Optometry. He completed his clinical rotations in Charlotte and Greensboro, NC and The National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Upon
graduating with honors, he accepted a position with a large surgical practice in Northeast North Carolina before moving to Raleigh and joining
the Kelly Eye Center.
With his extensive experience in managing and treating surgical patients, Dr. Smolenyak works closely with Dr. Kelly monitoring the pre and post-operative treatment of patients. He also specializes in the medical management of ocular diseases including dry eye disease, conjunctivitis, uveitis and ocular emergencies. Along with routine eye exams, Dr. Smolenyak monitors patients for the care of glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration. Dr. Smolenyak routinely attends medical education symposiums ensuring his patients receive the best and latest management of ocular disease.
Dr. Smolenyak is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the North Carolina State Optometric Society. He enjoys NASCAR and hockey as well as spending time with his wife and family.
